Making your journey faster

840,000 passengers per day in 2016

Several systems of transport have been considered for the Green Line: tramway, light rail system, metro. However, with around 840,000 passengers per day from the opening of the Green Line, only a heavy metro will have the capacity to accommodate this sizeable transport demand. The metro will be able to transport up to 35,000 passengers per hour and per direction during the peak hours, in total safety and comfort.

A safe, comfortable and non-polluting means of transportation

The future metro will have a lasting impact on the city’s image and personality. Using state-of-the-art technology, the metro will be spacious and run smoothly and quietly. The trains will have an attractive design combined with high levels of comfort, security and reliability, and low noise. It will help to reduce road congestion and will use clean energy solutions to help in the battle against air pollution.

Characteristics of the rolling stock

  • Commercial speed: around 30 km/h
  • Maximum speed: 70 km/h
  • Headway: 2 min 40s during peak hours
  • 1150 passengers per train

Making your journey faster

The metro will be a quick option for reaching the city centre. If you arrive in Sumariyeh or Qaboun by bus or microbus, you will need less than 15 minutes to reach the city centre, even during rush hour. The Green Line will have a wide impact on the overall public transportation network. Bus and microbus lines will be reorganised to optimise the transfer of passengers from bus and microbus to the metro.
