The Green Line route
Design process to define the Green Line route
The definition of the Green Line route was one of the major tasks carried out during the feasibility study. Several alternative alignments (routes and station locations) have been analysed and compared to each other by international consultants, considering several criteria:
- Technical characteristics and construction difficulties
- Urban and transport integration
- Cost of the project
- Environmental impacts
The project team has looked at many options along the Green Line corridor, only developing those that are viable. A consultation process was organised to gather the community’s comments concerning this major project.
From Moadamiyeh to Qaboun (around 16.5 km and 17 stations), the Green Line will serve major residential and commercial areas of the city, and will link up with several existing or future rail and bus stations, making onward journeys quicker and easier.

A new transportation hub in Moadamiyeh

The south-west terminus will be located close to the future Moadamiyeh railway station. Major developments of the suburban railway network are planned in the next few years, including the reopening of the line linking Damascus and Qatana, which will be connected with the Green Line in Moadamiyeh.
Sumariyeh

Sumariyeh is an important microbus and bus station, serving West suburbs, South of Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. The Green Line will become a quick means to reach the city centre. Travel time for people living in the suburbs and working in Damascus will be significantly improved. By using the metro, you will need less than 13 minutes from Sumariyeh to the University at any time even during rush hours.
Mezzeh Autostrad: from Al Akram Mosque to Adab faculty

The metro will run along Mezzeh Autostrad, and serve Al Akram Mosque, the Court of Justice and Al Jalaa Stadium.
From Adab to Baramkeh: the university
Thousands of students will be able to reach their faculties with the Green Line, either in Adab, Jamarek or Baramkeh.
A future transportation hub and commercial centre in Hijaz

A huge commercial and business building will be created in the next few years, and served by the Green Line, but also by the future North-South Red Line. In addition, the rail station will be reopened, and will offer connections with the main cities of Syria (Aleppo, Homs, Lattakia, Deir-Ez-Zor, Dara’a) and Damascus International Airport.

The Old City and the Citadel
The station planned under Souk Al Hal Al Kadim (200 m from the Citadel) will provide a quick access to the Old Damascus.
To the North – East: from Al Malek Faisal Street to Abbassiyeen Square
The metro will give access to Souk Al Malek Faisal, and then link up Al Tahrir, Abbassiyeen Square and Hob-Hob microbus station.
Terminus in the Pullman Station
The Green Line will complete its journey in the biggest bus station in Syria: the Pullman Station, connecting major cities of the country.
