Environmental measurements

Environmental measurements have been carried out by the project team for the Damascus metro project as part of the EIA process. This is necessary because:

  • The records obtained from these monitoring activities reflect the current baseline environmental conditions within the vicinity of the proposed Damascus metro project.
  • These records help to ensure that existing environmental levels are not exceeded during the metro construction and operation.
  • These monitoring records will also be essential to verifying that the opening of the new metro line improves environmental conditions.

Environmental measurements during the current phase of the metro project

Air and noise monitoring stations have been set up at six geographical locations along the proposed metro corridor. (In Moadamiyeh, Sumariyeh, Al Ba’ath, Hijaz, Abbassiyeen and Qaboun).

Air monitoring in Abbassiyeen (period of one month for each location)

Noise monitoring in Abbassiyeen (measurements during a 24-hour period)
