Public participation as part of the EIA process

Public participation and consultation are very important parts of the EIA process

Major transport projects, and especially public transport projects, are designed to serve the people. The population of Damascus living within or close to the Green Line corridor will be directly impacted by this new means of transportation. Local knowledge and values are vital to the EIA process. Additionally, the acceptance of the population is one of the key criteria to be taken into account in the EIA process. Public consultation aims to collect your point of view and comments, which will be a key element in the decision-making process. Therefore your participation in the EIA process to express your point of view is very important to the success of this project.

How can you participate in the EIA process?

You can share your personal views or experience about relevant environmental issues with the EIA team, they might be of significance to the development of the project.

It is worth noting that several meetings were held with Non-Governmental Organisations, environmental associations, traffic and urban planning engineers, metro users and heads of sub-municipalities as well as relevant authorities. These meetings are also a very essential part of the consultation process.
